The world bank claims about 3.5% of Mexico's GDP is remittances from US based citizens sending money "back home." About $6.7 billion in 2025. Imagine if the US hotel and food service industry (3.3% of GDP) disappeared. Now understand why the Mexican government makes it very easy to get a passport.

I looked at setting up Bitcoin kiosks to help these guys out, but the onerous KYC rules were far too cumbersome for a small time operation.
